The big difference between July and now is the Mesa 20.1 update which

It seems to point to memory being incorrectly handled in the kernel.
There never seems to be a simple test case to reproduce problems.

Problems only seem to show up for some people/systems. For example I
run a web browser on an ivy bridge machine following -current daily and
have seen no hangs.

As it is hard to have confidence that any kernel change actually helps
we will probably go back to an older Mesa branch for release.
I am trying to get some people who still report problems to try Mesa
20.0.7

Thanks for the reply and merging Mesa 20.0.8. I've been running Sep 21's snap with that Mesa version for the last couple days and no hangs so far. I'll reply back if I can reproduce it, otherwise everything is good.
