Synopsis: After upgrading to OpenBSD 6.9 or doing a fresh install I get a kernel panic after a reboot Category: kernel Environment:
System : OpenBSD 6.9 Details : OpenBSD 6.9 (GENERIC.MP) #473: Mon Apr 19 10:40:28 MDT 2021 [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> :/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC.MP Architecture: OpenBSD.amd64 Machine : amd64 Description: If I upgrade or do a fresh install of OpenBSD 6.9 on my Protectli FW4B router/firewall it completes successfully, however if I reboot before running syspatch or reboot after running syspatch, the kernel starts and then panics. It looks like when it's trying to load the inteldrm0 driver? How-To-Repeat: I can repeat this every time. Once it panics I have to perform the re-install (upgrade). I just upgrade overtop of what's installed and then the system boots the first time just fine. However if I reboot then it just dumps to ddb{0}> during boot. Following this dmesg, the console output first displays the upgrade using the 6.9 USB installer and then the subsequent reboot. Fix: I've been able to mitigate this issue by disabling the inteldrm driver using boot_config and making it persistent through reboots using rc.shutdown. dmesg: OpenBSD 6.9 (GENERIC.MP) #473: Mon Apr
