What I saw with the diff in snaps and rsync-over-ssh was lots of "channel 2: chan_read_failed for istate 3", I have also seen it with cvs-over-ssh. Maybe relevant that I often use ControlMaster (though I _think_ I also saw it without; I'm running with a self-built -current kernel without diffs at the moment)
