I had that issue on an Intel NUC when no monitor is connected. Sysupgrade would timeout and not do the upgrade. bsd is clever enough to get a console, but not bsd.rd. Since I had no traces of what exactly happened I gave up and brought on of those HDMI terminators that fake a monitor. problem solved. I no longer use this macchine, but I still have it so I can do some tests one back home. -- Matthieu Herrb
