[SUPER LOW PRIORITY in case it matters with 8.0 around the corner]
After what seemed like an uneventful syspatch, I got the usual system
mail-message notifying me about changes.

Welcome to OpenBSD: The proactively secure Unix-like operating system.
...
I expected the other notifications, but was confused why the MOTD file
seems to have *downgraded* from #399 to #15.
The system is running 7.9#15
$ uname -mrv
7.9 GENERIC#15 amd64
corroborated by
$ dmesg | grep GENERIC
OpenBSD 7.9 (GENERIC) #15: Sun Sep 27 02:47:08 MDT 2026
[email protected]:/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC
so I'm unsure how my stock motd file ever had #399 in it associated with
7.9 (I don't know what 7.8 went up to, so maybe there was some roll-over
from a 7.8#399 that didn't get updated before the motd got written?)
Anyways, not a big deal here and certainly not worth pre-8.0-release
brain-cell expenditure, just seemed weird and figured I'd report it.
