Disabling acpiec in the kernel build (naturally) removes the code path that was panicking but at the expense of acpiac, acpibat, and acpitz (as described in acpiec(4)). I do not have the expertise to resolve this at the moment and will thus leave it be; if anyone has any thoughts they would be greatly appreciated, otherwise thank you for tolerating my cluttering of the maillist.
