The split and lock-step modes are system level configuration options. You 
should be able to pick up a BSPs for these configurations which just works as 
is for test runs. Forcing the user to define the right set of options is not 
that helpful. Adding runtime checks just leads to dead code in some 
configurations. The lock-step mode BSP was tested for 100% code and branch 
coverage.
