These should be reverted because it caused the breakage it's a good way to 
record the issue in GitLab.  New MRs should come with the alternate change.

The reason we moved to GitLab is to make these processes easy we're not in a 
race I appropriate you wanting more time but the policy should always be to 
revert ASAP when we see breakage and have a new change in come via a new MR 
this is an easier way to track changes.  This also means that any future 
changes can be properly considered without being under pressure due to current 
breakage.
