Even with git push the existing approach I've laid out will work directly with `git clang-format` either standalone or in a pre-push hook. I don't see any good technical arguments here, only some strong opinions. On the other hand, what I'm trying to do will indeed "just work" immediately, so that there's no urgency or pressure for when your solution arrives.
