Is it complaining that it can't find the old versions? In those cases if you temporarily restore the old file then webrev should be able to show a diff of the content changes too, as long as the old version doesn't become re-managed. You could use rsync to restore the old files from a pristine clone, then hg purge to nuke when done. -DrD-
