I agree, the default help page is not very helpful. We are much caught in the autoconf system, which is not really designed with usability in mind. :-( But I am getting irritated on the help text. One day I'll probably hijack the autoconf system and replace it with a help text of our own, which omits all irrelevant autoconf yada-yada and present our options in a clearer way.
