build-dev is for building OpenJDK which does not use gradle at all.
The JavaFX project mailing list is openjfx-...@openjdk.java.net But this looks to me more like a generic problem running gradle. Since you are running on BSD, that port project probably *was* the right place. If its quiet then building on top of it might be a bit of a risk .. I'm attempting to compile OpenJFX (rt-b41445afa464) on OpenBSD CURRENT (2016-08-04) since the official OpenBSD package (and port) of OpenJDK does not include OpenJFX.
