Hm, spawnProcess is frustrating! The same probably happens on POSIX, but
of course, on POSIX holding a file open does not "lock" it. I think your
solution is a good one, but it needs to be written in such a way that it
will work on POSIX systems, too - it can't be merged as-is. Can you
update it to do so?
