I was able to work around the problem by running "buildbot start" inside
of a screen session, and leaving the screen detached, so that suggests
that launchd has something to do with it. I suspect that part of the
source of the deadlock might be events coming in via PBChangeSource, but I
was unable to reproduce this in a test environment.
