Well, the value to patch is here:

so you can monkey-patch that fairly easily at runtime:

pb.MAX_BROKER_REFS = 2048
}}}
I don't necessarily think that's a good idea!
I'll leave this bug open to track finding a better solution that doesn't
burden PB with so many references.
