Harlan is going to look at the possibility of restoring the slave-side
step (and adding tests and fixing #1715) or, preferably, adding a master-
side step and not supporting slave-side BK anymore. I haven't done the
revert yet, but it's in version control so there's no rush and we can do
that whenever it's required.
