The DSMO FAQ section was not established to take the place of / alleviate
the HHS FAQ. Remember, the DSMO process is only to maintain the selected
EDI standards and recommend new ones for adoption. We decided to have an
FAQ because we thought people might have questions about the DSMO process
but we also knew there would be questions about all sorts of things. The
way this FAQ works is...if a question is asked of X12 it goes to X12, same
for NCPDP, HL7 and on down the line. If a "policy" question is asked on
DSMO, it goes to HHS and, presumably would end up with the rest of the
policy questions they are getting. I don't think you should expect a
quicker answer from HHS on DSMO FAQ's...

I do like the idea that was offered about taking this issue up with NCVHS.
They are holding hearings on HIPAA implementation progress and I'm sure
this could be a topic for discussion. We can get the issue to them for
consideration at the next HIPAA implementation hearings if this group
wants to do that. Just let me, or someone else who works with them (Kepa
would be a good person) know.
