* * *POSITION: Design Engineer 2 Location: Kirkland, WA Duration: 6 months* * * *Overview: * One of our clients, a dynamic International telecommunication firm, leading the industry with the development and deployment of products and services for the telecommunications industry and the Internet, is seeking a very talented *Design Engineer* to work on a variety of hardware and software related design and development projects. Please review the following details closely, and please only respond to this position if you have all of the required skills and experience. *Required Experience:* Solaris 10, UNIX System Admin, Bourne Shell Scripting, Sun Jumpstart, JASS toolkit, UNIX Tools (sed, awk, expect, etc.) SNMP, Cisco Networking *Responsibilities:* As part of this team, examples of your duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: § Document steps to install, upgrade, and backup and recover operating systems for use by testers, customer support personnel, and wireless application engineers. § Work with other design engineers to plan, design and implement systems in a heterogeneous, distributed computing production environment. § Research, specify, evaluate, test and recommend hardware and supporting software components within the OS specialty area. § Integrate (build out) hardware for customer deployments. § Uses structured development practices to design, code, compile, and test production programs of a complex nature. § Uses structured engineering practices to develop and test hardware and software upgrade procedures of a complex nature in a geo-redundant environment. § Maintain an IPv6 lab network environment. § Work with vendors for product evaluation and selection. * * *Key Skills:* § Quality orientation with a strong eye for detail. § Structured approach towards development of processes and procedures. § Strong oral and written communication skills. § Detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills. § Develops and maintains effective and positive working relationships with peers and management. § Promotes participative approaches to problem solving. Thrives in a team environment.** *Experience Requirements:* § Experienced with integration and deployment issues involved in supporting a turnkey product in a customer environment. § Minimum 10 years experience with Sun Microsystems (Solaris 10 & 8). § Minimum 10 years experience with Unix System Administration. § Minimum 5 years experience with Bourne shell scripting. § Minimum 1 years experience of all of the following software/utilities: o Subversion revision control system o Rsync § Minimum 1 year of experience with IPv6 configuration and support. § Minimum 3-5 years experience with Sun Jumpstart and JASS toolkit. § Minimum 2-3 years experience with standard UNIX tools, i.e., sed, awk, Expect. § Minimum 3-5 years experience with Cisco networking. § Minimum 5 years experience with system security and network security. § Minimum 5 years experience in a heterogeneous system environment. § 4-5 years experience building, automating, and supporting distributed computing environments. § 3-5 years experience with Sun packaging and patching. § 2-3 years experience with SNMP. § Minimum 1 year of experience with TCP/IP socket connection theory and programming. § Minimum 1 year of experience with Sun live upgrade and flash archive. § Experienced with disaster recovery methods. § Willing to work overtime and on-call as necessary to meet organizational needs. § Experience with database configuration and management a plus. § Prefer experience with Rational Clear Case. § Experience and understanding of the telecommunications industry is a plus. *Other Requirements:* * * § Must be on-site at the client's Seattle, WA office Monday through Friday. § Bachelor*s degree (preferably in computer science or similar discipline) from a four-year college or equivalent experience § Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills. § Display high levels of self-motivation.
