Checking the status and operations of SAS servers, including starting, stopping, and/or pausing the servers used in the SAS system . Managing metadata repositories . Performing and scheduling regular backups of the Metadata Server and physical files . Monitoring, logging, and/or troubleshooting SAS servers, including using system logs or setting logging options as well as options within SAS Management Console (SMC) . Troubleshooting basic SAS server issues, such as system access and password problems . Understanding SAS installation directory structures, where to find things related to servers, configurations, content, etc. . Administering the scheduling of jobs and reports . Using SMC to administer metadata . Adding new libraries to the Metadata Server . Via SMC, controlling user access to various parts of the SAS system, granting permissions to read, write, create or view reports and data within the system - ensure that Users see only the information that they are authorized to access. Create and configure libraries and permissions for Users and groups of Users, and assign logins. Troubleshooting performance problems in a logical, scientific manner using a combination of SAS logs and OS logs. . Understanding how SAS interacts with third party software such as databases, web application servers (in this case, WebSphere 7), etc. . Resetting SAS passwords . Help the customer build out Administrative Policies and Procedures, and Administrator Best Practices . Understanding the functionality of Teradata & DB2 (beyond just knowing how SAS/ACCESS engines interface with them) - mostly Teradata now. If you don't know DB2, you can learn it, but knowledge of Teradata is immediate. . It would be nice if the Administrator could actually code / program in SAS and maybe use Enterprise Guide - but, maybe not actually know how to use Enterprise Miner, for example, or the other end user tools such as GRAPH, but any of this would be nice (lacking this experience is not a "show-stopper"). The customer's PC users that will access the new server software already know how to use SAS technology.
