*Title :* Database Architect
*Location :* PA
*Duration :* 10 Months

*Responsabilites*
DCNR houses large and aging database environments. Oracle is where DCNR
houses it's most mission critical data (financial, well production, GIS,
etc.). Currently, BIT is supporting two competing Oracle application
conversions. Snow/ATV - who's start date (because of procedural issues) was
far behind schedule, and all wells systems, specifically WIS and PA/IRIS.
Because of the late start for Snow/ATV, both efforts are competing for the
attention of DCNRs single Oracle DBA. And because Oracle forms will soon no
longer be supported, delaying either conversion is not an option for DCNR.
In addition, DCNR has secured a new GIS Coordinator, who has been given a
list of mandates by the DCNR Secretary. These new mandates all center around
better utilization and sharing of our GIS data. Most of DCNRs GIS data
resides in Oracle, both internally and externally. Some of the automated
transfers are being re-evaluated, which will necessitate modifications in
the composition of these databases. The SNOW/ATV conversion is expected to
run through next fiscal year, while the wells review will most likely run
into the fiscal year after that. The GIS work will most likely occur over
the next 13 months. During the time of these major initiatives, our other
Oracle databases need to be maintained.
The purpose of this resource will be to handle some of the on-going daily
maintenance issues, looking at ways of leveraging the newer Oracle 11G,
Business Objects, and more efficient data transfer options. DCNR needs
better connectivity between its data sources (parks/forestry facilities,
land, stakeholders, wells, species locations, etc.), and better
interconnectivity to outside sources (DGS, DEP, Game Commission, etc.). This
Database Architect will perform department-wide assessments of our data
repository's, assess new Oracle capabilities and ensure on-going
sustainability of our mission critical systems, while the current DBA
focuses on these key conversions, the issues that continue to arise with as
yet unconverted aging systems, and new GIS initiatives.
