Unix Application Servers will be migrated from Oracle/Sun SPARC/Solaris Systems to x86-Intel based/Linux Servers in a VMware Virtualized environment. Daily duties include but are not limited to: Senior Unix Hands-on Systems Administration Senior Linux Hands-on Systems Administration A) Variety of UNIX/Linux Systems administration tasks on Oracle Sun Solaris Servers and Dell x86 Servers running Red Hat Linux systems and Exadata X2 Oracle Linux: -Troubleshoot UNIX & Linux system & OS related issues -Troubleshoot Networking services such as TCP/IP, NFS, DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SSH, SFTP, SMTP, SNMP, SSL etc. -Exadata Systems Administration -User Account management -Sun LDAP administration -Veritas Volume Manager and file system configuration & Tuning -Hardware, Software & OS maintenance -Software configurations -System performance tuning -Disk storage management using technologies such as Solaris Volume manager, Logical volume manager, Veritas volume manager, ZFS -Automation using shell scripting, Perl or Python -Kernel tuning B) Install, Configure and administer various software (Veritas, Iplanet, etc.): -Veritas Suite (Volume manager, file system configuration, clustering) -EMC PowerPath -Sun iPlanet Web Server -Administrative tools & utilities C) Monitor and Resolve alerts: -Perform proactive monitoring using SunMC, OpsCenter and OEM & respond to Alerts -Plan deployment of fixes for security related alerts D) Server Technical Incidents handling: -Responds to technical incidents -Escalate incident to Chief/Manager -Contact the vendor in a timely manner -Perform/lead troubleshooting sessions E) Server Backups and Restores: -Performs Backups and Restores using Symantec NetBackup Software -EMC Data Domain Backup Appliance Administration F) System Builds & Upgrades: -Install, Configure & Maintain Bare metal and virtualized Solaris (zones/LDOMs) and Linux systems (VMware guests) using Jumpstart and Kick-start procedures -Upgrade Solaris & Linux systems with OS, recommended & security patches as required G) Work on special projects: -Unix Application migration from SPARC/Solaris environment to a x86 Server/Linux and VMware environment -Attends Unix/Linux technical meetings -Coordinate work with other technical staff from various teams - UNIX, SAN, WAN, DBA, Applications, etc. -Create Work plans -Create Visio diagrams and document architecture as appropriate -Produce Status Reports -Create and Maintain Operational Run Books H) Assist in Technical mentoring Junior members of the team Candidates should have at least 36 months experience, and at least one of the following should apply: Enterprise Linux Certification (Redhat or other) Hands-on-experience in providing UNIX/Sun Solaris 10.X Systems Administration and Engineering services working with large scale complex UNIX environment. Hands-on-experience in providing Enterprise LINUX 5.x or 6.x Systems Administration and Engineering services working with large scale complex LINUX environment. (Ex Exadata or like engineered system) Hands-on-experience in providing VMWare Systems Administration and Engineering services working with large scale complex Virtualized environment. Hands-on-experience in writing and deploying Shell scripting and/or Perl Scripting or other scripting tools.
