Experience with other GIS packages is transferable •Experience with Microsoft Access and Excel •Ability to work independently to create thematic maps •Familiarity with geospatial tools and resources available on the Internet •Willingness to learn and adapt to rapidly evolving geo-spatial technologies •Willingness to work as a member of a team •Excellent communication skills HP Enterprise Services is looking for a GIS analyst to fill a position within the Geospatial Research, Analysis and Services Program (GRASP), a program within the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), that is responsible for geospatial analysis, research, and technology as applied to diverse public health domains including environmental health, site-specific exposure, infectious and chronic disease, injury, and emergency preparedness and response. GRASP works with ATSDR, other CDC centers/institutes/offices, state/local health organizations, other federal agencies, international governments, academia, and advocacy groups. *As a GIS analyst, the incumbent will be required to* •perform analysis of georeferenced datasets using established methods and techniques, •produce static and dynamic map products using established cartographic protocols and standards, •process, alter, and manipulate GIS data in preparation for analysis, visualization, desktop automation, and systems integration and •provide recommendations to GRASP government staff regarding use of geospatial methods/techniques and the fitness of GIS datasets for particular purposes. *Experience with the ESRI ArcGIS GIS software suite is required. The incumbent will be expected to be familiar with* •vector GIS analysis including proximity, overlay, and buffer tools, •geocoding, •network analysis, and •map projections. *Additionally, the incumbent must be familiar with cartographic concepts such as* •symbology, •visual hierarchy, and •color, and •ypography. Experience with GIS data formats including ESRI shapefile/personal geodatabase/file data base, and Google KML/KMZ is required. Experience with Adobe Flex and Illustrator, GoogleEarth , Python scripting, the ESRI Flash API and InstantAtlas is a plus.
