Sybase IQ Consultant

 

We are looking for a strong Sybase IQ technologist serve in an Application
DBA role. This role would include working with developers and development
teams on design and performance review of database components of our
application, as well as participating in the maintenance, enhancement, and
daily operation of the existing capabilities, including typical DBA tasks
(server configuration, backup, management). Ideal candidates will possess a
combination of strong Sybase IQ technical skills, ideally with some
knowledge of Sybase ASE and/or IBM DB2 as well.
Principal Responsibilities
Work with Market Risk Technology developers to assist in design and rollout
of new software on the Sybase IQ platform. Responsibilities would span
technical design, development, testing, tuning, release and support.
Along with Firmwide DBA team, take responsibility for operation of Market
Risk Technology database servers, including Sybase ASE, IBM DB2 and Sybase
IQ.
Experience / Skills
Required
. Significant expertise and professional experience in Sybase IQ operations
and administration
. Track record of technical excellence with an emphasis on quality and focus
on testing and continuous improvements
. Strong communication skills
. Strong initiative and sense of ownership
. Working knowledge and proficiency in software engineering principles
applicable to large systems
. Willingness to learn and work with a proprietary development platform and
language (SecDB and Slang)
Preferred
. Knowledge of Sybase ASE and/or IBM DB2
. Knowledge of some area of trading, and basic familiarity with one or more
categories of financial instruments

 

 


Sybase DBA

 

Currently seeking an experienced Database Administrator that can perform
high value database solutions across the firm. We are looking for an
experienced and highly intelligent DBA who has the ability to face off to
application development teams independently, challenge them, and provide
database expertise across the 'high value add' spectrum of things a DBA
does. 

Primary responsibilities will include Architecting DB solutions and
performance tuning. 
Preferred technologies are Sybase (v 12.5/15), DB2 UDB (9.1/9.7) and/or
Oracle as well as MS SQL 2008 

8 + years of experience in the following:
. Environment analysis/audit resolution
. Fielding calls with application development for all DB inquiries
. Performance tuning/performance analysis/ engineering and architecture.
. Version upgrades/case management
. Code optimization
. Vendor engagement/interaction as it pertains to new features, new versions
. Combination of app/dev and production support
. Willingness to learn new technologies is a must
. Excellent communication skills required
