*Job Description:*

Background:

As required by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the client must ensure
that all the electronic and information technology (EIT) procured,
developed, and maintained by the client is in compliance with all applicable
Section 508 standards.



Examples of EIT supported for Section 508 compliance include:

•             Web and client/server applications including Structured Query
Language (SQL), hypertext mark-up language (HTML) , extensible mark-up
language (XML), asynchronous JavaScript + XML (AJAX),  JavaScript,
WebSphere, Cold Fusion, Hyperion and others.

•             Customer Information Control System (CICS) mainframe and
screen refacing applications.

•             Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
electronic documents.

•             Adobe Acrobat documents and electronic fillable forms.

•             Telecom equipment.

•             Video and multimedia equipment.

•             Desktop and portable computers and interfaces.

•             Assistive Technology (ex. JAWS, Magic, Dragon).

•             Assistive Technology Scripts.

•             Application Development Tools.



*Activities:*



In accordance with Section 508 Standards:

•             Provide planning and design consultation to development teams:

1.            Assist project teams with identifying applicable Section 508
and accessibility requirements for application development and procurement
initiatives.

2.            Assist project teams with understanding how Section 508 and
accessibility activities fit within the SSA development life cycles.

3.            Assist project teams with understanding tools and resources
made available to assist with planning, designing, development and testing
applications for Section 508 compliance.

4.            Provide design reviews of preliminary design mock-ups and
specifications to identify potential Section 508 compliance issues before
development activities begin.

•             Provide coding consultations to development teams for:

•             Web and client/server applications including SQL, HTML, XML,
AJAX, JavaScript, WebSphere, Cold Fusion, Hyperion and others

•             CICS mainframe and screen refacing applications.

•             Accessible documents using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and
Microsoft Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat (including electronic fillable
forms).

•             Assistive technology scripts to support the effective use of
Assistive Technology tools (primarily Freedom Scientific’s JAWS and Nuance’s
Dragon Naturally Speaking products).

•             Perform Section 508 Compliance Testing and Evaluation, in
accordance with Section 508 and Accessibility Standards, for:

•             Web and client/server applications including Structured Query
Language (SQL), Hypertext mark-up language (HTML) , extensible mark-up
language (XML), asynchronous JavaScript + XML (AJAX),  JavaScript,
WebSphere, Cold Fusion, Hyperion and others.

•             Accessible documents using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and
Microsoft Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat

•             Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software.

•             Other electronic and information technology that contains a
user interface and is subject to Section 508 law.

•             Beta testing new releases of assistive technology, testing
tools and development tools (to determine tool’s ability to generate Section
508 compliant output).

•             Provide operations and management support to improve the
effectiveness of the client’s Section 508 Program:

•             Conduct analysis of Accessibility Architecture and identify
opportunities for improvement.

•             Develop processes to help improve the effectiveness and
efficiency of Section 508 planning, design, development and testing
activities.

•             Support the expansion of Section 508 Testing Methodology by
analyzing the effectiveness of automated testing and reporting tools and
assisting with the development and integration of these technologies into
the current manual test environment.

•             Prepare and conduct training on Section 508 planning, design,
development, and testing activities.

•             Identify, develop and validate best practices for implementing
Section 508 standards.

•             Participate in Section 508 research relating to the practical
implementation of Section 508 – particularly relating to the implementation
of new technologies.

•             Participate in efforts to improve communication and
collaboration with respect to Section 508 compliance activities.

•             Deliver presentations on Section 508 and accessibility
initiatives.



General Duties:



•             Provides technical supervision, analysis and engineering of
information systems; defines requirements and limitations; provides
technical guidance and direction; performs system testing, and develops
engineering plans/schedules.

•             Defines group direction from loosely given guidance,
interfacing with appropriate personnel to extract program information.

•             Mentors less experienced team members.

•             Assists in the determination of the overall results analysis
approach, and provides future network development guidance to the
engineering staff.

•             Will analyze physical, functional, system, data, and component
architectures.



Job Requirements:



•             Minimum ten years of experience is required.

•             Expert-level experience / subject matter expert in Section 508
Compliance

•             Bachelors Degree preferred

•             Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance (process takes 3-5
weeks)
