Overview:
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) provides
critical IT systems for law enforcement and various other entities statewide
as well as interfacing to federal law enforcement systems. These systems
must be available 7x24x365.
The Specialist 3 will assist DCJS technical support staff primarily in
monitoring and maintaining the legacy production environment that runs on
Sun servers and employs Oracle databases and applications written in Java
and Forte/UDS. In addition, the candidate will assist in migrating from the
legacy Sun environment to Linux (RedHat EL 5 and 6). In addition, this
position will assist in the installation, configuration, and administration
of Linux systems to include database servers, application servers. The
candidate should be versed in networking concepts and configuration of
networks in Unix environments (Solaris and Linux… RedHat EL 5 or SuSE… at
minimum).
Due to the critical nature of these services, the Specialist 3 will be
required to assist DCJS technical staff in 24x7 on-call coverage for
production problem resolution and to work occasionally off-shift when
outages are required to perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades on
systems.
*MANDATORY EXPERIENCE*

Minimum eight (8) years experience in administering and supporting IT
Systems.
Minimum six (6) years experience installing and administering Solaris
operating systems on Sparc hardware. This should include six (6) years of
experience with Veritas Volume manager, Sun Volume Manager, management of
SAN storage allocations to Solaris, configuration of network parameters
within the Solaris OS.
Minimum four (4) years experience in installing, configuring, performance
tuning and troubleshooting Linux Operating Systems on x86 servers. This
should include network configuration, storage allocation and configuration
including use of LVM2 tools and utilities. SuSE or RedHat Linux experience
required (RedHat EL 5 preferred).

ASSOCIATED SKILL SETS*
Candidates must also have four (4) of the preferred skilled sets listed
below. Accordingly, candidates not meeting the supporting experiential
specifications below will not be considered for the position.
1. Certified Solaris 10 Systems Administrator.
2. Extensive experience with shell scripting and other scripting languages
including Python (preferred) on Unix systems.
3. Experience using Veritas Foundation Suite on Solaris. Experience should
include defining disks to Veritas; creating volumes and Veritas file
systems; importing and deporting volumes to/from a Solaris host
4. Experience with server virtualization using either Solaris Zones
including setting up and configuring virtual machines, configuring
networking, allocation of resources to virtual machines, clustering and
performance monitoring
5. Experience configuring network interfaces and services on Solaris and
Linux systems.
6. Experience configuring and supporting DNS, SMTP, NTP and FTP services.
7. Experience setting up Oracle ASM on Linux (SuSE or RedHat … RedHat
preferred).
8. Detailed experience setting up SAN storage on Solaris and Linux.
