Job Title: UNIX System Admin Location: Bellevue, WA Duration: 1 year contract. Need good relational database experience such as Oracle or SQL. Client will interview and hire this week. Will consider out of state candidates who are able to relocate here. Position Overview: Are you a Senior UNIX Application Engineer looking for an exciting and challenging job? This role involves ongoing operational design, deployment and support of distributed computing applications on Unix. Responsibilities include collaboration with Delivery managers, developers, testers and other Database Engineers supporting the Hadoop system. The Application Engineer will be responsible for monitoring / troubleshooting Hadoop production issues, monitoring Application performance, tuning Application by working with Unix administrators and Development team, manage day to day hadoop operations, write new monitoring tools required for daily operations and working with end customer to manage the support needs. Responsibilities: -Providing support in Hadoop installation, troubleshooting, upgrade and daily operations. - Designing system storage structure and planning future storage requirements (design & analysis of file systems, logical volumes, raw containers) -Troubleshoot MAPReduce jobs and fine tune by working with Development team. - Manage HDFS file system and ensure HDFS is optimized for business needs. - Proactively plan for capacity requirements and work with Infrastructure team for timely upgrade. - Work with DBAs to ensure Data transfer is optimized and monitor Data SLA needs. - Ensure system meets availability needs. - Implement monitoring for availability and performance management. Qualifications: 5+ years of support experience with large scale UNIX Application support management. Strong scripting skills is required. Should have working knowledge in managing UNIX file system and other OS configuration. 1 or 2 yrs of JAVA experience is required. Experience in supporting Hadoop will be a big plus. Work Experience and Education Guidelines: Bachelor of Science degree preferred from accredited college/university or equivalent exp required.
