* * *Description* You will be involved in designing, improving and maintaining the safety software for a product that defines the limits of invention. The control system has a Siemens PLC to ensure both human safety is ensured and machine damage is prevented. You will be on the team that is defining the interaction between control loops running on quad core boards and platform software that runs on IBM bladecenter and interacting with the PLC software to control a complex set of devices and actuators. *SUMMARY* Develops Siemens PLC and HMI software. The role will include all aspects of the product development lifecycle – planning, requirements, design, code, test and maintenance. *DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* - Maintains and develops Siemens PLC and HMI software. - Generates software requirements, design documents, interface control documents and unit test plans. - Works with complex hardware interfaces in a real-time environment. - Writes software requirements, detailed design documents, develops and performs unit testing of real-time embedded or application software. *QUALIFICATIONS* - Ability to develop and understand complex control systems including embedded real-time, application layers, and its associated hardware environment. - Ability to follow a Software Development Process that includes elements of planning, estimation, gathering and analyzing requirements, developing concepts and designs, implementation, developing and executing test plans’ and engaging in work product reviews. - Ability to understand complex algorithm and system level requirements and translate these to clear concise and coherent software requirements. *SKILLS/EXPERIENCE* - Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering - Knowledge of software engineering processes, including Software configuration management and the ability to read and create appropriate project documentation. - Knowledge of real time system interactions in an embedded environment - Knowledge of microcontroller architectures and principles of operation. - Knowledge and ability to work with oscilloscopes, and signal generators. - Must have knowledge and experience in: - Siemens PLC 300 (CPU 317-2 PN/DP; standard and safety programs) - Step7; LAD, STL, FBD, WinCC and GRAPH languages - Data communicationsNetworking technologies such as TCP/IP, Profinet etc. - Perl (preferred) or other scripting languages - Relational database management systems such as Oracle or PostgresSQL - Linux *PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT* - The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level. - Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents. - Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work. - Can learn and apply new information or skills. - Travel within and outside the US may be required. - Must be able to be on call and work hours as required to solve problems that arise with internal and external customers.
