bbox cron does not check every crontab every minute.
  Only every hour.

That would be sufficient for this one aspect. It should be somewhere. If
I missed it please tell me where I should be looking.

So far we don't have any extended documentation apart from help texts.
We assume that we try to mimic standard behavior and user will be able
to find the doc for standard tool on the Internet etc.

OK , that's pretty much what I do usually but I thought I may get shouted at for refering to vixiecron doc and complaining about BB.

The current doc does document the restricted feature set by omitting the options not supported. That seems fine but maybe where there are differences of behaviour this should be noted somewhere (unless the differences are bugs ;) )

My point was more general: that perhaps the current documentation is too
brief in some areas. You would know better than me what features
(especially where behaviour varies from the standard unix tools) are /
are not documented.

I propose fixing crond to detect the changes faster instead of explaining
its deficiencies. Checking mtime every minute would be good enough...

Fine. I thought this was intended to be a feature. Making it match the standard tool would be a much better solution since the overhead is minimal.

As for where it should be , what is the canonical point of reference for
busybox documentation? -

http://www.busybox.net/downloads/BusyBox.html

Is this not the best place to refer to?

This file is generated from help texts for every applet,
it is not edited by hand.
