This is something I have been interested in for years and I have
considered doing that. However, I think the general attitude at that
time was "if you want udev use udev - its not that big" which it
wasn't at that time. It is now.

It would still not solve the libudev needed for Xorg, gvfs and the
others, so I think that a mdevd project, or a proper udevd
alternative, probably belongs outside busybox scope.
