You reverted the culprit commit and then the behaviour was as expected/known?

Yes, but I had to revert few next commits related to getty also.
Then I have made another test with reverting only the next commits
reversed previously, keeping this one and problem arrived again.
Next test was with getty.c from BusyBox 1.19.3 with rest of code from
1.20.0 and it worked properly again.
