*"BNHS OVER 125 YEARS" AN EXHIBITION AT THE MUSEUM*

On 15th September BNHS completed 125 years. It all started as an idea when 8
citizens of Mumbai first met on 15th September 1883, at the Bhau Daji Lad
Museum at the Jijabai Bhosle Udyan at Byculla to form BNHS. Among those 8
founder members, Dr. Atmaram Pandurang and Dr. Sakharam Arjun were Indians.
Today BNHS is India's premier institution and foremost non-governmental
organisation in nature conservation. It is the only voluntary organisation
in the country, which has a sustained uninterrupted tradition of scientific
research, education and conservation activities.

As part of a series of year long activities a 10 day Exhibition "BNHS over
125 years" will be held at Mumbai's Museum Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu
Sangrahalaya in Curator's Gallery from 17th to 26th September. This
colourful exhibition depicts the Society's journey to become India's premier
NGO in the field of nature conservation. The exhibition is woven with some
exclusive natural history images representing India's rich biodiversity. The
exhibition will be inaugurated today by Mr. B.G. Deshmukh, President BNHS
at 5. 30 p.m. at the Museum's Curator's Gallery.
