If you're planning a meet in the NE, then I think our other NE members could
help out as well.

Yes friends we are back from a very exciting trip .Ultapani was good but
namdapha was great.

for those who are unaware,  u sclose to the  Bhutan  Border,There is no
electricity there and  even the  BSNL phones work in  few spots across the
village,Essentially most of  our butterflying was done  from the  main road.
The nearest hotel is about 3o miles away.

Fortunately we stayed in the range office right in ultapani and  The senior
forest officals   got a generator for us  where we charged our battteries.
Ultapani had  lots of butterflies but the variety was certainly more at
NAMDAPHA. Our group at  Ultapani comprised of    Isacji, Usha ,Balakrishnan and
myself. Ultapani was a beautiful place and the volunteers t here have a fairly
decent knowledge of the  species available here.

The landscapes especially on the  Bhutan border was picturesque. We showed the
volunteers some films from  BNHS, Usha and isac had to drop out from the
namdapha trip due to some personal reasons

At Kokrajhar we were joined by Arjan and Rudradas we  boarded the train at
Kokrajhar and   went to tinsukia  which was about 4 hours drive f to  Miaow
town which is the entry point to  namdapha.

The first butterfly we spotted at  the  elephant camp was the wizard and we
thought  it was a great start. We got off the vehicle and began walking up a
climb 4 kms later we reached   landslide . My heart was in  my mouth  as we
crossed  the landslide which was about  60feet wide   one wrong step and you
could go down 50 feet that was scary. we reached the camp  after a  6 hours
walking and taking pictures. All of us got a good catch my lucky one  was the
Green duke  female

Everyday we added about  20 species to our list and  i think  if stayed there
for another 7 days our count would go past 300

The  heart stopping sight of the trip was when we walked down the river bank
and we saw about 2000 to 3000  butterflies mud puddling in  in  one spot.
Balakrishnan to got an mazing picture of an orchid tit swimming in the
water.Rudro will send the detailed list shortly.  Namdapha is famous for its
swallowtails but  i presume the  best time to see them is  april  may.

and finally  thanks to  isaac, usha, bala, arjan for being such good teammates

This was my second trip to namdapha and believe me that place has  some magic
about it.The  tall trees, the sound of   hollock gibbons, the meandering rivers
and  butterflies. Someone please pull my reins because i am wanting to go there
again in april or may.
