thanks, kiran. both isaac and i have laid out our reasons for 
changing or not changing the name (also see my response to ramjee's 
email). the matter is not settled because we did not agree, but this 
is unsurprising. on ethical grounds i am going ahead with Brownie for 
Allotinus (and Crenulate for drumila) in my next book and all 
subsequent publications. i guess out of Darkie and Brownie, one will 
eventually die out depending on how socially sensitive and respectful 
butterfly-watchers become, and how widely they refer to books. until 
then, it is up to individuals to choose between these two names for 
their own use.
