Hope the new year will grant you loads of new butterfly sightings and great photos! As a new year gift we are almost ready to launch our very own website for BCS! The day of the official launch is being planned but until then here is a sneak preview of our site already live on the web. It is fully functional except for a few kinks that need to be ironed out. Without further ado here is the link: http://www.bcshyd. com Please go through the site. There are different sub-sites you can access from the main/home page such as the gallery: http://www.bcshyd. com/gallery/ This is where the best butterfly photos of our members will be showcased in two separate galleries, one divided scientifically into the individual butterfly families and the other in the form of a member's gallery with a brief bio of the member in his/her individual gallery. I've uploaded a few of my photos as an example so please go through the gallery so that you can get an idea how the photos will be arranged and displayed. There will also be a sub-album for photos of any events BCS organizes. We also plan to have a separate sub-album to display the complete life cycle of a particular butterfly species if members have such photos that they can share. As I said in a previous mail please do share your best photos in the manner I described in my previous mail. We intend to promote this site in a big way so it will be a great way to showcase your talent to the world. Another sub site is the blog: http://bcshyd. com/bcs The blog will be updated with BCS news about upcoming trips and outings, please sign up for the RSS feed on the blog to stay up date with the postings on the blog. A perhaps unique feature to BCS and one I hope will lead to greater interaction among members is the forum: http://bcshyd. com/forum The forum is open for registrations so please do sign up. The forum is intended as a place to interact with other members. If you have a butterfly photo that needs to be identified then you can post it a dedicated topic in the forum. If you want to discuss butterfly hotspots there will be a space for that. You can post your field trip reports in the appropriate place (the best of which will be posted on the main site). Or you can even discuss completely off topic stuff about the latest film you saw etc. in space dedicated to that. We have great hopes for the forum as a place to promote greater interaction between the members so please do sign up and start posting there. The forum is still evolving so your ideas or suggestions to improve it will be most welcome. The forum is open so you can already start posting once your register! Another special part of the website is the articles section: http://bcshyd. com/articles Here special articles on all aspects of butterflying written by expert/knowledgeabl e members or guest experts will be posted. And last but definitely perhaps the most important section of the website will be the section on Indian Butterflies accessible from the home page: http://bcshyd. com/indian- butterflies. html This page has links within to individual sections on Butterfly Hotspots, Butterfly Trip Reports, Butterfly Checklists and to the photos on the gallery. The idea is to eventually create a comprehensive resource through these pages on butterflies found all over India. Please go through the site at your leisure, register yourself on the forum, subscribe to the blog feed etc. If you have any suggestions, ideas, criticisms or need some info please feel free to write to me at anil at arthedains dot com. Cheers, Anil Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy!
