Plum Judy Abisara echerius • While trekking from Gharpi , right after first stream gradual ascending starts. Here, Forest was thick, no sunlight penetrates. Just after second turn, found a very large congregation of Striped Tiger Danaus genutia . Within an area of 50 meter X 20 meter butterflies were roosting on every branches, lianas, shrubs & herbs. Minimum 100-150 butterflies were present on small branches. Total count might be in few Lakhs. Along with them very few Common Indian Crow Euploea core and Double-branded Crows Euploea Sylvester were present (for every 100 count, they were less than 1, say less than 1%). Around Mysore, Karnataka we have seen huge congregation of Danaids in large numbers. But this was largest. Right after congregation location, hardly we trekked 2-3 Km and found 'forest clearing' was going on in full swing to make way for Rubber plantation right upto Phansavade. • At many places Blue Tier, Dark Blue Tiger, Common Crows in 2 -3 numbers, were found on Crotalaria spp. Plant in good forest patches. • Found one Common Crow was driving away mud-puddling Malabar Raven on dried up river-bed. • Absence of Crimson Rose is astonishing.
