Hi Anchal, I'm sorry I typed out a long message for you but after clicking on
Preview, Yahoo seems to have gobbled it up. Oh well!
To repeat : I'm no expert on host plants. In fact that is one of the reasons I
joined this group, so that I could find out more about them.
To attract butterflies to an area, Lantana is fantastic. And after the berries
show up, they attract birds too so you can bird-watch as well as
butterfly-watch.
Curry-leaf plant (Murraya koenigii) is favoured by the Common Mormon. I always
see some around my curry-patta plants.
Grass Yellows are partial to my French Marigold plants but I think the ordinary
marigolds are just as good, if not better.
The Pink Cassia tree produces a sap that attracts all the butterflies in the
area. I posted about it in my blog . Check out :
http://the-urban-gardener.blogspot.com/2008/11/garden-tea-party-butterflies-invited.html
Its amazing! I've never seen so many butterflies in one spot before.
Several of our common plants are favourites : Cosmos, Ixora, Pentas, Marigold,
Zinnia.
I'm sure there hundreds of wild plants which are favoured by them too but I
dont know much about those.
Another thing, make sure water is available in your butterfly garden. Not a
deep pool or anything, something shallow. Or even a damp patch of mud. They
love that.
And I know I dont need to say this, but I'll just repeat it anyway : no
chemicals on your plants please.
Hope this helped.

Sunita
