Hi

I read in several books than in butterflies mostly newly hatched
males do mud puddling. The reason behind that is to collect
minerals/nutrients which can be passed to female as a nuptial gift. I have a
question ... why females do puddling ? My observations for past few months I
have seen Common Baron, Gaudy baron, Large guava blue female doing mud
puddling. In same species I have seen males doing mud puddling too. Now if
males are doing mud puddling then why females require to do it ? In what
other species females also mud puddle ? Whats the reason ?

Can somebody throw light on this subject ?
