Forgot to mention that Common Map larvae eat only young, new leaves.

Cheers,

Excellent find, Milind! This is a larval Map (Cyrestis), a genus in the
subfamily Cyrestinae that is of particular interest to me. I am not sure which
species fly in Maharashtra, but based upon my experience elsewhere in Asia,
your photo most likely shows a young Common Map (C. thyodamas) -- in any case,
certainly not the Marbled Map (C. cocles), which looks totally different. Here
is an example of a Common Map caterpillar from Taiwan:
http://nc.kl.edu.tw/bbs/showpost.php?p=82215&postcount=40. Virtually all
hostplant records for Cyrestis are in the Moraceae, of which Ficus dominates,
so please rear this cat and let us know what emerges. Good luck!

Best wishes,

Keith
