Twenty five years ago - information on butterflies was a problem. Despite time
and many attempts, we still don't have reasonable access to free information on
butterflies.

Krushnamegh has plans for a web site but its ambitious and not even
begun. At the very least three years realistically before it becomes suitable
and complete enough for use.

The moral of the story is - so much has changed but still things remain the
same. Sad to know that butterfly information is still difficult and costly to
come across. The only true freedom will come when the articles on Wikipedia on
Indian butterflies are reasonably developed.

A good start has been made in Wikipedia. A few of us - namely Shyamal, Vijay,
Garg, Viren and self had engaged with Wikipedia to add material on
butterflies. Ill health has caused me to pause haslfway through. The project
has slowed down. Sadly, no one else, besides the few, has been forthcoming to
add information on Wikipedia.

Unless members of ButterflyIndia group decide to donate some information back
to the commons of the world in return for ALL the information they take from
the internet, our collective state will remain the same. So I exhort each and
every one, take up a few species, say three or four, and develop those
articles on Wikipedia. Many hands make light work and the resources will
surely and steadily expand to satisfy all of us who cant get access to the
butterfly books whether due to availability or cost.

If you would like to contribute in Wikipedia and want guidance in starting,
get in touch with me, Shyamal ([email protected]) or Vijay Barve
([email protected])! W are there to help you.

Sincerely,

Ashwin

Louise Leakey tell the fascinating story of ancestral humans. And sitting in

with Carolyn Porco. So can you, thanks to TED....
