Not a Lepidopteran. Probably a fly larva?

Hi all,
I found this caterpillar-one of the fastest that I have seen, in a residence in
July 2010. It was a small caterpillar-few centimetres long. The intriguing
feature of this caterpillar was that it could move forwards and backwards very
smoothly, making it very difficult to identify which end was its head.
Tough to photograph, but this was the best that was possible at that time.
Would appreciate if someone could identify it.
Thanks
