Dear all,
after putting my reference collection on public display and setting up a
butterfly house here in Bhimtal, Uttarakhand, I am now thinking of running two
courses, each of a week's duration: the first would be an introduction for a
beginner to butterflies and moths, covering identification, habitats, habits,
and generally answering all the questions that would be raised by participants.
The end product would not be a certificate, but confidence in studying
butterflies and moths.
The second course wold be a somewhat advanced one, also a week long, covering
taxonomic concepts, genitalic preparation, community and ecosystem analysis,
much field work, etc., also, as usual, covering all questions asked. The end
result would be greater confidence in tackling tricky ids, familiarity with
techniques and problems.
The third and fourth weeks of September would be fine, say Sept.14 to 20
inclusive for the first and 22 to 28 for the second course.
If there are enough participants, I would put up two man stand-up canvas tents
here, or else, participants could stay in nearby hotels. My ideal group size
would be 10 members, however, more or less are welcome. Do let me know if
anyone is interested, so I can plan accordingly. Costs would be Rs.300 per day
per person in tents, Rs.450 p/d per person food (vegetarian) and a Rs.3000/-
per person course fee. Transport would be by taxi, to be shared equally between
participants.
Enquiries welcome at [email protected].
