Hi I am just pitting together the list of ideas for theme of the month. If I have missed any ideas, please email them again.
- focus on one hotspot at a time- for eg: The Western Ghats- and ask for photos of only the endemics. While this might neglect members who have not visited the hotspot at hand, this will expose many members to a large number of butterflies outside their region. This also emphasizes the need to conserve the isolated species and their habitat. - Migration, - mudpuddling - 'Batesian mimicry' - From another perspective, we could have a theme aiding the identification of some of the more "challenging" species. Edited photos in which the crucial features are pointed out would be truly invaluable for the novice. In this way, several photos can be compared as well. - "Rare, endangered and Data deficient species". I'm sure many ButterflyIndia members have great photos of the same, and the conservation value would be immense. - patterns, natural beauties vs artificial, reflection(S), contrast (by colour, by background, by pattern), unusual perches.... - Could a particular family like Hesperiidae-Skippers or Nymphalidae-Brush-footed Butterflies - be announced as a theme of the month and we all post butterflies belonging to that family? We could make our own folders of photographs of the Family and this would certainly add to our knowledge. In fact it would be great if we could go through all five families. I am suggesting this as per the classification given in Isaac Kehimkar's book. Just a thought. This might be too rudimentary a thing for most of you who are experts and know a great deal. If not as a theme of the month idea, could this be worked out in some other way? Regards, Vijay -- --- Vijay Vasant Barve http://diversityindia.org/ --- -- Enjoy
