The start time is 0000 UTC on the 7th which is 7:00 PM (1900 to those of you
who are real hams!) on the 6th (Friday) and it ends 48 hours later at 23:59:59
UTC on the eighth. There is no start or stop time for the contest on Saturday,
but the gate to the park is locked at dark and unlocked at 07:30 CDST, 7 days
per week. You can operate all night if you wish and can find anyone to talk
to. The contest uses UTC, but the Park uses CDST. The normal overnight camp
group is limited to 8 people, but I think we can get a waiver to that if we
have more than 8 who want to stay the night. Tell me what you want to do and I
will try to arrange it. I need to know who will come and go when so that I can
have something for you to eat and drink! I would like for everyone to get as
much operating as you can stand or at least as much as you want and on the
bands you would like.
The best band for making a lot of contacts is usually 20 meters, but this year
10 meters was a better band for the CQ WPX phone. 40 meters is the best band
for working ships because only the ships using ham equipment can operate 10 or
15. These bands were considered VHF in WW2, so most of the ship board radios
were limited to CW and 18 Megacycles. Some to 10 Megacycles so they could not
even make 20 meters. No SSB was available in WW2. We will try to provide what
you want to see and enough for everybody, but so far I do not have a count of
who wants to eat when or who wants to sleep when. Who wants to operate SSB and
who wants to operate CW. What kind of key do you want? Who wants to operate
VHF SSB, 2 meters, 6 meters, 440 or what. If you want to operate satellite or
digital you may need to bring the equipment. We are not planning WARC coverage
and I will have to check to find out if it is recognized. The time for dialog
is now so
that we have time provide if we can.
I think you will like the park. It has better facilities than Seawolf and more
amiable rules.
