My recollection is that the entire list replaces all of the dashes in the number with just a single dash, so T=0, A=1, U=2, V=3 and so forth and there are no abbreviations for 4, 5, or 6 because none of them have more than one dash in them. I was first exposed to more than "N is 9" when I went to lcwo.net to scrub the rust of my CW skills several years ago.

Okay, doing some searching, the technique is called "cut numbers" and the abbreviation for 7 is G and 5 is abbreviated as E.

Of course, the only ones that are commonly used are N and sometimes T.

Only thing I can think of is that once they pass 99 or 999, they use the T for Thousand or something.

    Bill,

    "T" is for a "0"
    "N" is for a "9"
These are the most used one's.

    P.S. Have fun on CW.

many ops use letters for a number like T36...so as I forgot what
is the T for. What or where do I find the Dick Tracy CW decoder
chart to convert the letter to a # in the log
