They will have a better chance if we can get a more friendly executive
department, but that will take about 2 and 1/2 years minimum. There have been
a lot of new hams joining the DX world since 1993. If we can get someone more
friendly toward people and get Dennis Rodman to earn a ham license maybe we can
get a couple more countries. I still need Tromelin and Heard, so I have a
couple to look forward to. Since I already have Navassa I'll let those who
need it worry about it!

I stand corrected regarding the additional DXpeditions.
However, as I indicated the Fish and Wildlife service has not been willing to
grant access to the island since it fell under their jurisdiction in 1999.
Since January 2011 a group of hams, called the KP1 – 5 Project has been
attempting to secure access to Navassa, working through the bureaucracy. This
is the same group that pulled off a DXpedition to Desecheo Island (KP5, #51 on
the most wanted list.) in 2008/2009. I hope they make it to Navassa
eventually.

Subject: [BVARC] Navassa Island (KP1)
It was an interesting article about Navassa Island but the statement about the
last activity being in 1978 is in error. I worked AA4VK/KP1, WA4DAN/KP1,
KW2P/KP!, N0TG/KP1, AA4VK/KP1 and AA4NC/KP1 1/18/1992 through 1/21/1992. The
first DXpedition to use KP1 was in 1978 with others in 1982, 85, 88, 92 and 93.
Expeditions before 1978 used KC4. Still it has been more than 22 years since
the entity has been activated, so it is really rare and getting more rare by
the day. Navassa is needed by 96.97% of the Club Log responders while P5,
North Korea is need by only 96.53% of responders. #8, Tromelin is due up in
November of 2014 and #6 Heard Island is due up in January of 2015. I am sure
there are plenty of DXpeditioners who are trying to get permission for Navassa
and North Korea but politics is a barrier.
