THIS IS WORTH THE TIME SPENT TO READ

We are now at time of this post 5 Days 7 hours UTC from kickoff of the KK5W
BVARC Museum Ship Weekend Event. Our Club KK5W will represent the USS Stewart
and USS Cavalla from Fort Travis, Bolivar Peninsula, within sight of the ships,
in the 2-day worldwide event sponsored by the NJ2BB USS New Jersey. There are
now 101 ships listed for this event first weekend on June 7th and 8th UTC. (See
NJ2BB web page) http://www.nj2bb.org/museum/

Cookie K5EWJ our BVARC MSWE chairman is making final adjustments on antennas
today to be used at the event at Ft Travis. Mike N5VCX is making final
preparations for the antenna trailer this weekend. I will be at the Park for
Friday 2 PM setup of the camp as the event UTC starts Friday night 7PM.central
time. Later this week Cookie and I will be real busy gathering all the gear
needed for the 2 day 2 night event. The event thus far will use the antenna
mast trailer with a 3 element tribander with a triplexer 3 station 1 antenna
setup, BTV-6 ground mount vertical, VHF setup and various wire dipoles. This is
an event so WARC bands will be utilized. A Large 5500-watt generator with spare
and smaller generators for less noise night operations will be on site. The
plan is Three HF stations activation with 4th VHF station. The Galveston County
Park has granted free admission and free overnight camping to BVARC with use of
the 2 indoor cabanas and 2 tent overnight camping for our club event. I have
also at my expense rented a room with 2 beds COLD AC and an out door cement
pond for swimming at the Crystal Palace Resort on Bolivar Peninsula for
participants medical needs, cool down, and some day bunk time if needed for the
guests of the event. So far known attendees are at 20 participants today and of
those 8 known night campers for MSWE. 7 others have made mention to show up for
Saturday operations. That's 27 to show up thus far throughout the event. This
year we will not need a list of folks to show up for the event as no gatekeeper
to check the list and waive the admission fee as it was at Seawolf Park. IF YOU
CAN COME TO OPERATE DO DROP IN AND SUPPORT THE BVARC KK5W MSWE EFFORT. PLEASE
DO. ALL ARE WELCOME. THIS IS YOUR INVITE. If you could please let K5EWJ Cookie
(email [email protected]) or me know you will attend as we want plenty of BVARC
food, water, soda and ice etc. on site and make a time for you to operate HF if
so desired. My contact info is Bill Stone WS5H email [email protected] phone #
(also good for event on the peninsula) 713-776-1030.

The mini master plan for the 2-day event is.....

OPERATE HF, work the pileups that want the special wild card 2 ships for 1
contact in the 101-ship event. On a casual basis work the repeaters and make
VHF contacts for those without HF. Friday 2PM setup can use help if you can.
Friday night begin on air operations. Work the pileups. A few of the overnight
campers will throw in extra bucks and cook up some steaks with all the fixings
(steaks not supplied by BVARC) on the BBQ pit. BVARC burgers and beans will be
available for overnight free food. Bottles of anything is prohibited in the
park. Can beverage only please. Can beer (bring your own beer) is welcome but
park rules say no hard booze. See park rules
http://www.crystalbeach.com/travisrules.htm) Some will rock the house at the
BIG KAHUNA BAR AND GRILL. (Big Kahuna not funded by BVARC) Saturday morning
BVARC supplied breakfast on the pit. Thinking scrambled eggs, bacon, link
sausage, cheese served separate on the plate or on a flour tortia. Work more HF
pileups. Saturday afternoon in past MSWE has shown largest # of participants
and BVARC will supply Subway sandwiches, chips and drink for lunch. Work more
HF pileups and VHF. Saturday evening dinner plan is the same extended plan as
Fri night. Sunday work more HF pileups and VHF. We will combine the breakfast
and lunch into Brunch about 8 -10 PM Sunday with eggs bacon, burgers, campsite
sandwiches and whatever is left as we plan to stop event operations and begin
breakdown about 2 PM Sunday. Charcoal and the 2 pits are available for use
anytime between the food plan in the event so if you get hungry for something
special, go to the grocery store down the road and cook it up at the campsite.
If it's real good make enough to invite me too.

On a final note: the park gates for our security will be locked at about dark
thirty. The gate reopens about sunrise per the rules. If your arrival time is
after dark please MAKE A PLAN with Cookie to get in. We have been entrusted by
Ft. Travis per special needs for gate open / close for our BVARC event. If you
show up at 3PM unannounced and try to call we may be asleep and not hear the
phone. Plan B then would be to go to XTAL Palace Resort. Call Bill WS5H for the
room entry.

A Ghost Buster group of spirit chasers will be at the campsite one of the 2
nights looking for ghosts of Ft Travis. Is this the TV series? We plan to
saturate the airwaves with RF to help them find the spirit of Marconi

Come join us and Have Fun with Amateur Radio
