If field day was an event like MSWE we would utilize warc bands. FD is a
contest and rules exclude use of warc bands. This clearly shows that FD is a
contest.

It would seem to me that "operating event" is the superclass of "contest", in
that every amateur radio contest is an operating event. Nets and such are
operating events, too. In fact, I've concluded that any sort of organized
activity that involves operating would be well described as an "operating
event", so the term "operating event" is so vague as to be nearly useless.
The question, then, would be to figure out the reason why the distinction is
important in this case.

It's their show...they can call it whatever they want. If it's not really a
contest, then why have rules and keep score?

Even the ARRL calls it an "operating event".
