My original FD plans were for a CW operator to man the solar power station at 5
wattsfor more reliable contacts. I even had straight, iambic and single lever
keys ready. The radio (FT-817, 5 watt, 2 amp transmit) was even set up for CW in
the menus. After the solar contacts, the NVIS antenna could have been used with
a 100 watt radio. It is rated for 1500 watts. The NVIS antenna would cover most
of Texas and into Louisiana on 40 and 80 meters most of the day even on 5
watts. I also had an end fed wire vertical rated for 100 watts. It is tunable
from 40m to 6m.I have a considerable amount of money invested in this system.
