This is most definitely disheartening.

You are absolutely correct. EVERY ham needs to be involved in this effort. Every single one should at least be able to write a letter or make a phone call or both. Those who can should make the trip to DC to be present for the hearing.

This is an issue that only affects 0.2% of the US population and their closest neighbours. For the most part, this is a non issue to the rest of the country. If we don't raise ALL of our voices at once, we won't be heard and this bill will go nowhere. No congressman is going to benefit from the passing of this bill, therefore they have no incentive to work very hard at passing it. We have to give them the incentive.

Michael and all,
I hope HR 4969 passes but my experience Wednesday at Pete Olson's staff outreach leaves me doubtful. One of Pete Olson's staff was to be at the Fulshear City Hall for two hours. There had been a general announcement and an email sent to all the hams I know in the area. I was the ONLY ham in attendance. There was a neighborhood paper representative and that was it. I gave the Olson staff member a copy of the letter I had sent in support of HR 4969. I spent about 30 minutes explaining what ham radio does and why the "Amateur Radio Parity Act" is important to hams and the community. When I left there were no hams in the parking lot. The staff member was left alone as far as I know. The experience was surely a bad example for participatory democracy. If we want HR 4969, then EVERY ham needs to go to their representative's LOCAL office and get their voice heard.

Subject: [BVARC] HR4969 - Ham Radio Parity Act - "Deadline" Sept 19

To All Amateur Radio Operators (Reading these lists),

The house will go on "vacation" on September 19. If you have any
intention of sending a letter to your representative, you need to do it
before they go on hiatus. For faster delivery, send a scanned copy of
your signed letter to the ARRL who will hand carry them to your rep.

All the info you need can be found on the ARRL site -
http://www.arrl.org/hr-4969

I hope that EVERY amateur will participate in this effort. The outcome
of this bill will affect many of your radio brethren if not yourselves.

Thank you and Seven-Three,

Michael
