Per my request below thus far no info was received about manual programming the
Baofung UV-82. so I just bought one from http://baofengradio.us/products/ .
The houston distributor Chase was at our last general membership meeting and
gave out 15% discount coupons. ( local Texas residence use code redemption
bvarc ) at checkout. Total was $40.09 shipped to the door. Im way too lazy to
drive over to beltway in SW to pick it up with the free shipping. I've seen the
radio sell on Ebay "buy it now" for 38 bucks but for his 1 year in house
warrenty for parts/ labor or replacement the tax as in houston is not a
problem. Anyway let me know if you have one and if you self manual program it.
I will tell the story soon.BTW- The UV-82X VHF/220 model is not in stock in
Houston but I buzzed his ear to stock them. The UV-82X sells for about 8 bucks
more.

Subject: [BVARC] Baofang UV-82 info needed

It is said on the internet that the Baofang or the newer name change Pofung
UV-82 VHF/UHF radio is programable ( self manual field entering of repeaters
and simplex freq's) without the use of a PC and program cable. Anyone own this
HT and can tell me if the menu for manual programming is really as good as say
Yaesu or Icom HT's. In the past I frowned about China radios however now that
Yaesu and other name brand HT's are made in China this radio is lookin good for
replacing my older HT's. For about a bit more the price of a name brand HT
battery a complete VHF / UHF radio can be had. I also noticed a not so
mentioned UV-82X is sold that is a VHF / 220 mkz. This if the radios are self
programmable could make 220 band affordable. Please give me your field report
for manual programming of this radio.
